Darrin Person M.S.W. - Link to Mentoring Youth and Faith Based Programs Mr. Darrin Person- Master Trainer, is the co-founder of Person-to-Person Counseling services with his wife Iris. Together they provide counseling services to individuals and families. They also provide an array of seminars and workshops: Marriage, Boundaries, and Parenting. Darrin is a recent author of Amazon Books – “Bye, Bye Boogieman, Overcoming Fears”. Darrin also leads as the Associate Pastor of the Praise Church located in Clovis, California where he has served for the past twenty years. Currently, Mr. Person works as the Mentor Manager for Fresno Unified School District, the fourth largest school district in California. He has been in this position for approximately thirteen years and has been instrumental in establishing more than 20 new mentoring programs (i.e., Peer Mentoring, Young Men of Character, Girl Power, E-Mentoring) in which his efforts have connected thousands of students with positive role models every year. Mr. Person has also been instrumental in the development and implementation of the Alliance Programs (Men and Women Alliance) aimed to help students develop leadership skills and increase coping skills to manage negative behaviors that lead to suspension/expulsion within the 8-12 grade experience. Britt Ortiz M.A. - Link to Higher Education Mr. Britt Ortiz- Master Trainer, has worked in all four segments of California higher education (UCSB, CSUN, ULV, LAMCC) over his 32-year career in the areas of early outreach, academic preparation, recruitment, retention, family engagement, diversity management, and educational access. He has served as a lecturer, worked as enrollment services manager, and been a university administrator at both public (CSU & UC) and private (ULV) institutions. Mr. Ortiz has presented at 15 National and more than 30 State-wide & regional higher education conferences. He has written and/or co-authored numerous State, Federal, and private foundation grants for a host of agencies and institutions that have resulted in over $4.5 million in total funding. Mr. Ortiz has served as the Director of the Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP) at UCSB since August, 2000. During this time, team EAOP developed and implemented the “College Site Coordinator” whole school service model that was credited with increasing UCSB & UC System applications, admissions, and eligibility rates by 50-100% within in 1-4 years of implementation. Tou Thai Lee M.P.H. - Link to Community Engagement and Drug Abuse Prevention Mr. Tou Thai Lee- Master Trainer, is an independent Public Health Educator, Drug Prevention Education Specialist and Community Engagement Specialist for a variety of state, county, and local non-profit agencies, including the MN Department of Human Services, Ramsey County Public Health – Environment Health Division, University of Minnesota – Twin Cities Agricultural Safety and Health Program, Hmong American Partnership (HAP), Vietnamese Community Services (VSS) of MN, Association for Non-Smokers MN (ANSR), and Tobacco Free Alliance (TFA). Tou has committed his career to helping youth and families make safe and healthy choices. Prior to becoming an independent consultant, Tou was the Project Coordinator for the MN Department of Human Services – Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division funded MN Prevention Resource Center (MPRC). During those 13 years of experience, Tou has had the opportunity to learn what youth and families need to thrive and have used the Strategic Prevention Framework to engage communities innumerous environmental and evidence-based strategies aimed at reducing substance use among youth and families. Mr. Tou Thai Lee also has had the opportunity to work with individuals, families, schools, and community coalitions in the Midwest Region as well, providing consultation and training around Substance Abuse Prevention.
